Today's Video Share: "Drop Another Pin" by Grace Pettis

Grace Pettis, whose debut single for MPress Records "Landon" was received with tremendous critical acclaim, has delivered another outstanding song. Dishing out hearty portions of hooks,"Drop Another Pin" is a fetching, alt-country-folk ode to living in the moment. Inspired by Pettis' own nomadic upbringing across the South, the song has gained new meaning in 2020. Grace explains: "I'm happiest when I'm able to center myself within my own little dot on the map, but I've learned that change is the only constant. Now is the time to get comfortable with change and stay centered in the present."

Featuring co-production and keyboard contributions from fellow Austin native Alejandro Rose-Garcia (Shakey Graves), the uptempo track was mixed by Grammy® winner Andy Zulla (Kelly Clarkson). But the accompanying video to "Drop Another Pin" required a heap of DIY from Grace as she made it at home during lockdown. Conceived and directed by Grace, husband Cris Lopez (New Wildebeest) filmed it in 4K on a cellphone. Grace then edited, color-corrected and added overlays of stock footage. The result is both fresh and retro, with the imagery of an old time projector bringing out a classic VCR- looking time stamp. For more information, visit gracepettis.com.

Today's Video Share: "Masterpiece" by Keely Burn

The official music video for Keely Burn's first single from the upcoming album Not My Masterpiece (out June 25th). This energetic piano rocker tells the story of a push-and-pull, all-take-and-no-give relationship, visualized in the lyrics as a game of tug of war. The video takes a more abstract approach, as Burn destroys the conventions of her modern existence by smashing glass against the wall and throwing paint around the room, and in doing so, ends up creating a new work of art out of her destruction.

Today's Video Share: "Runaways" by Marlae

Marlae’s imaginative production favours escapism, taking refuge in digital sound. Gentle but insistent rhythms are pierced with the entrancing invitation of Ohle’s unique contralto voice – the only analog element in her production. “This song – it’s more ‘me’ than what I’ve done before,” Marlae explains. The result is a steady current of gorgeous electronic orchestration and synth, with an intimate and personal guide for the journey. One is made to think of Damien Rice, caught in a melancholic post-club reverie.

The stunning video for the track was created by Australian filmmaker Paul Dodd. Dodd heard Marlae’s work and reached out on Instagram in 2020. Forced to get creative with the restrictions of the post-Covid landscape, Marlae and Dodd opted to use a claustrophobic opening, with shots of protest and evoking a feeling of chaos and frustration. This opens out as the video progresses – the video goes from a tight square aspect to full lush widescreen, as the viewer escapes to the countryside and is given space to breath.

Today's Video Share: "Back to Light" by memoryfield with Robyn Cage)

This is a collaborative effort between the group memoryfield and vocalist Robyn Cage, and the ninth song they have recorded together. This is the first single released from the full-length album Lost to the Sea. It's a moody, somewhat darker song and much more on the ambient side of things compared to the rock songs they usually record and release. Robyn's general style is similar to Florence and the Machine/St. Vincent whereas memoryfield tends to be more (70's) David Bowie/Led Zeppelin.

Today's Video Share: "Cave (Don_Cerati Remix)" by Rachael Sage

Sage's "Cave (Remix)" - her debut collaboration with NYC-based DJ/producer Don_Cerati - fuses elements of House, Brazilian, Afrobeat, Trip-Hop, Tropical, Middle Eastern, and everything in between, to take one on a globetrotting soundscape journey; the track was mastered by Grammy® winner Alan Silverman. Sage, who is most known for her lyrical, folk-pop material, invokes her signature stream-of-consciousness delivery and melancholic vocals for this seductive EDM/World Music track.

The luscious, deep colors used in the lyric video (art-directed by Sage and directed by J.P. Moldero/Surge) reflect the  sensuous lyrics of the song, which describe the juxtaposition of romantic passion against eventual feelings of isolation when lovers begin putting up walls and telling white lies. Whereas the original "Cave'' was essentially a tango, in "Cave (Remix)" the minor, Eastern European and Middle Eastern flavors of serpentine string and accordion riffs merge modern grooves with Old World ambiance, transporting us somewhere exotic and mysterious.  For more information, please visit rachaelsage.com

Today's Video Share: "I Confess" by Dora Lachaise

From an attic overlooking Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol (UK), Dora Lachaise produces dark, otherworldly music. After her Danny Elfman-esque debut single Bone Collector, which was picked up by BBC Bristol and Amazing Radio USA, Lachaise dives into electronica for her second single ‘I Confess.’

The song was inspired by a statue of the saint Mary Magdalene, generally portrayed as a ‘fallen woman’ with a wild past. That story isn’t true, but it was used as a warning for girls and women to listen to their fathers and husbands. In ‘I Confess’, Lachaise sets the record straight by retelling the story from Mary’s perspective.

The video itself pays homage to another woman – the Surrealist photographer Dora Maar. While we remember the men from the Surrealist movement – Dalí, Magritte, Picasso – the women have largely been forgotten, unless they were their ‘muses.’ Unjustly so – Maar was an artist in her own right, and made thought-provoking photomontages, which inspired the music video for ‘I Confess.’
