Today's Video Share: "Katydid" by Marianne Kesler

Marianne Kesler is a singer-songwriter currently living in Dayton OH. She writes mostly in the folk/pop genre.

“Katydid” is a follow-up to her single, “Dragonfly”. In both songs, she borrows characteristics of the insects and applies them in a tongue-in-cheek way to human behavior. So, while the dragonfly is very beautiful, it is also a predator. Katydids are primarily nocturnal, "she disappears all day, then at night came out to play", and the song takes a playful look at a fickle love interest. Do you know what Katydid? Marianne wrote, performed, and recorded, this second of the two songs which she fondly jokes are her "bug collection" ;)

Marianne has five album projects and numerous singles available online for streaming and download sales. Her website is www.mariannekesler.com. When not writing songs, you may find her performing solo acoustic gigs (often outdoors, barefoot) at various venues in the Dayton and Yellow Springs areas.

Today's Video Share: "Embers" by Daniela Galasso

The idea for this music video came up when I was vacationing in Tahoe with friends. I played “Embers” for my friends in the cabin we were staying at, and after that weekend, I couldn’t help but imagine shooting a music video in the winter in the woods. I produced and directed this video DIY with my partner, who helped with the technical parts of shooting and editing. I did my own storyboarding and we rented an Airbnb in Twain Harte, CA as our "set", where we shot everything in two days. This was my first music video and I was very camera-shy. Before shooting, I even contemplated making an abstract video where my face wouldn’t really be featured much (haha, yeah right). Fortunately, after some warm-up takes, I got much more comfortable with the camera, and I'm super proud of the result! “Embers” is the third single off my upcoming EP, which features honest, heartfelt songs that capture beauty in vulnerability. Today's Video Share: "Dreaming Peacefully" by Drea Lake

One of the things that has always made Canadian music unique is the fact that many artists have close relationships with the environment. The inherent intertwining of the beauty of the natural world with the creation of unforgettable lyrics and melodies will always shape Canadian culture, and singer/songwriter Drea Lake is directly connected to that tradition. Drea Lake’s “Dreaming Peacefully” is the kind of song that casts a spell, putting Drea in the realm of other artists with that rare ability, such as Joni Mitchell and Bruce Cockburn. The only drawback is that it will leave you clamoring for more, so prepare to be transported. Splitting her time between Montreal and the rustic town of Elora, Ontario, north of Guelph, Drea is poised to release her third single, “Dreaming Peacefully,” following up her previous offerings, “Bird In Your Window” and “Disappear With Me,” which established her as a dynamic new voice within the Canadian pop/folk music scene over the past two years.

Today's Video Share: "To the One" by Jan Shaw

This song began with the Columbine tragedy in mind. Its verses came out of true stories reported on national news. Though five more tragedies were written about, many more mass killings have occurred in the U.S. since then. "To The One" is a tribute to all of those affected. Please offer your prayers to those still dealing with it and to those forever committed to changing the reasons it happened.

Today's Video Share: "Steady As She Goes" by Carlene Thissen

Carlene Thissen wrote this song during the Covid times when her husband was also fighting terminal lung cancer. The song was written to calm, bring truth, uplift, comfort, and inspire. Carlene says: 'This song is a metaphor. It was difficult for me to write, as I was depressed and feeling constantly in shock with the events happening around us. For weeks I couldn't even work on it, and even after the amazing music arrangement and production by Edward Croker, it was hard for me to listen to. Then my friends started telling me it made them feel reassured at the thought of steering steadily on. The ship in a storm is the troubled times we are in, but also for troubled times that many people experience due to natural life events. I was the 'ordinary seaman,' who is never supposed to be at the helm during storms, only on calm seas on open waters. I'm holding the wheel tight and straining just to see the shore. But in the end, someone says "Stop the fear," and "wipe the tears from your lovely eyes, Believe the light that's up in the sky." The video, produced by Joe Orecchio (Joe Orecchio Photography) matches the metaphor perfectly. Cat Chase from Cat Chase Video shot the local footage here in Naples.

Today's Video Share: "Femoir" by Karen Myatt

“Femoir was conceived at a small café in Rome. It might have been the cappuccino or the cannoli, but something special there gave birth to the project. I found inspiration in both the immediate and eternal elements that define femininity – emotion, creativity, intuition, sensuality, beauty. These songs explore characteristics and archetypes that help to define us as both a species and as individuals. They are more relevant – even required – these days than perhaps ever before.”

Today's Video Share: Inspiration Story About the Song "Circle" by Emily Irene Glazener

Tragically, Emily became a widow at the young age of thirty-three. She found herself a young, single mom- and once again, music saved her. Emily knew she had to keep going for her sons, and she knew it would be through her music. Luckily, Emily has always had the support of her family and sons, which made it possible for her to keep playing. She pushed through, and on top of her solo shows, she began playing with others and found a new love- playing with a rock band.
“I really cut my teeth with [the band] Rock Radio, and I was only a fill-in, but I loved it. That’s when I knew I was hooked- I sang ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ and that was it- I was hooked!”
This began a new journey in Emily’s career- going from solo to “frontman” of a band. She has been a part of several bands over the past decade. Currently, she is in two. Red Iris plays original music, and The Joan Hearts is a popular tribute band that pays homage to another of Emily’s trail-blazing influences, Joan Jett.

As a long-time supporter of Everytown and Moms Demand Action, Thea is so pleased to finally get this song out to the public to serve as inspiration for change and continued efforts for gun sense in America, as well as honoring and remembering the victims of gun violence.

All proceeds made from The New Normal are being donated to the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund in perpetuity.
