Today's Video Share: "Steady As She Goes" by Carlene Thissen

Carlene Thissen wrote this song during the Covid times when her husband was also fighting terminal lung cancer. The song was written to calm, bring truth, uplift, comfort, and inspire. Carlene says: 'This song is a metaphor. It was difficult for me to write, as I was depressed and feeling constantly in shock with the events happening around us. For weeks I couldn't even work on it, and even after the amazing music arrangement and production by Edward Croker, it was hard for me to listen to. Then my friends started telling me it made them feel reassured at the thought of steering steadily on. The ship in a storm is the troubled times we are in, but also for troubled times that many people experience due to natural life events. I was the 'ordinary seaman,' who is never supposed to be at the helm during storms, only on calm seas on open waters. I'm holding the wheel tight and straining just to see the shore. But in the end, someone says "Stop the fear," and "wipe the tears from your lovely eyes, Believe the light that's up in the sky." The video, produced by Joe Orecchio (Joe Orecchio Photography) matches the metaphor perfectly. Cat Chase from Cat Chase Video shot the local footage here in Naples.

Today's Video Share: "Femoir" by Karen Myatt

“Femoir was conceived at a small café in Rome. It might have been the cappuccino or the cannoli, but something special there gave birth to the project. I found inspiration in both the immediate and eternal elements that define femininity – emotion, creativity, intuition, sensuality, beauty. These songs explore characteristics and archetypes that help to define us as both a species and as individuals. They are more relevant – even required – these days than perhaps ever before.”

Today's Video Share: Inspiration Story About the Song "Circle" by Emily Irene Glazener

Tragically, Emily became a widow at the young age of thirty-three. She found herself a young, single mom- and once again, music saved her. Emily knew she had to keep going for her sons, and she knew it would be through her music. Luckily, Emily has always had the support of her family and sons, which made it possible for her to keep playing. She pushed through, and on top of her solo shows, she began playing with others and found a new love- playing with a rock band.
“I really cut my teeth with [the band] Rock Radio, and I was only a fill-in, but I loved it. That’s when I knew I was hooked- I sang ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ and that was it- I was hooked!”
This began a new journey in Emily’s career- going from solo to “frontman” of a band. She has been a part of several bands over the past decade. Currently, she is in two. Red Iris plays original music, and The Joan Hearts is a popular tribute band that pays homage to another of Emily’s trail-blazing influences, Joan Jett.

Today's Video Share: "Rise Up" by Kim Krenik ft. Jennifer Epperley

Indie pop artist Kim Krenik writes piano driven rock and pop music. Her songs flow out of her experiences and many focus on themes of faith, love, struggle, and empowerment. She wrote the inspirational pop song, "Rise Up" after breaking her right foot when she dropped a couch on it while preparing to move from California to Washington. Her full schedule of teaching, packing, raising four kids, and performing came to a halt because she couldn't walk or drive. A couple of weeks in is when she realized it wasn't really her foot, but it was her mind that kept her from accomplishing tasks. She literally had to rise up and force her weak muscles to work. She prayed for healing, which came in time. But in retrospect, she believes God wanted to first heal her broken mind and teach her to train it to RULE the body, rather than let her body rule her mind. Jennifer Epperley Hitsman cowrote and lended her beautiful voice to sing the bridge and harmonies, and Colin Robinson produced and mixed. This song can be found on Kim's "Deep Breath" album and is available at all online stores.

Today's Video Share: "The Other Life" by Break Me Down

Veronica, frontwoman of the band, says: "In the song The Other Life, the protagonist is Grimilde, the evil queen of Snow White who, in the song, questions herself looking in the mirror about what her life would have been like if instead of being an evil character she was been a normal person... despite the doubts, however, she realizes that being bad is the only way to be herself. In the video, Grimilde is a narcissistic, sadistic woman who lives in darkness. After the initial awakening, she confronts her mirror, and aware of her evil nature she decides to have fun imprisoning his victims in this limbo suspended between life and death. The queen plays, weakening her prey with man's greatest fear: darkness, what is unknown, what we fear most. And right in the dark, she drags her intended victims, into oblivion made of darkness… the very world she comes from”.
