Today's Video Share: "Cave" by Rachael Sage

MPress Records founder/recording artist Rachael Sage has just released her new video, "Cave", from her critically acclaimed album Character. Composed while she was a teenager, "Cave" was rediscovered by Sage during her 2018 recovery from cancer, while she was sifting through an old box of lyrics. Struck by how much more the song resonated for her so many years later, the stripped-down studio performance is punctuated by Rachael's signature calligraphic handwriting and original artwork, underlining the complexities of emotional isolation during lock-down.

Rachael reveals: "I wrote this song while I was in college, where I fell hard for someone who was definitely not ultimately 'healthy' for me. It was a very formative experience and left me with a lingering fear of being manipulated or rejected for who I actually was. When I sing it now, the song reminds me to revere authenticity and honesty in all my relationships – and to fully embrace unconditional love.

Art-directed by Sage, directed by longtime collaborator Nick Clark, and animated by Daniela P. Solomon, the clip utilizes playful animation to bring her handwriting and signature line-drawings to life, as though we are inside Sage's psyche. The result is a unique video that merges acoustic performance with an innovative approach to socially-distanced video-making.

Today's Video Share: "A Higher Purpose" by Wokepoets / Dale Lawrence

Wokepoets is a collective of several Atlanta-area musicians featuring both female and male vocalists. They create only original music with a focus on social and humanist issues. This song was previously selected as an audio track for the Women of Substance podcast. The cryptic lyric alludes to a higher purpose in life, but the video goes a long way towards putting a face to many of the societal issues that the lyric hints at allegorically. Compassion, love and empathy are not only Christian values. They are essential human values.

Today's Video Share: "Wintergrass" by Kathy Bogle

Wintergrass is a song about missing someone who is no longer in your life. For me, it's about missing my children who have all moved on with their lives far away from me. I am Kathy Bogle. I wrote, performed, and produced this song. As I work on a video for one of my songs, I review hundreds of photos and videos looking for interpretive pieces to string together in meaningful ways. Sometimes I have an idea before I start, sometimes I shoot photos/videos to suit my ideas, other times I don't have a clue and just allow the media to take me where it will. I had some ideas for this video as it was pretty personal for me. I recalled some photos I'd taken on my last trip to Nevada, of the long road ahead. I remembered a few weeks before writing the song, I went for a drive and saw a pair of bald eagles perched in a dead tree, and I longed for one of my children to be there sharing it with me. When I started looking at photos I found the picture of a sneaker like one of my kids loved to wear. So, there are a lot of thoughts portrayed in the video. I hope you all enjoy it!

Today's Video Share: "WINDS OF CHANGE" by Wokepoets / D. Lawrence & D. Levene (Feat. ELINE VERA)

Wokepoets is a collective of several Atlanta-based musicians led by Dale Lawrence. They create a wide eclectic range of socially conscious, lyric driven modern music. This particular song was written with Dale Lawrence's mother and brother in mind both of who passed under tragic circumstances. First, his brother at just 18 years old was killed in a hit and run and just a few short years ago, he lost his mother to ALS and watched helplessly as she withered away. A beautiful melody led to a heartfelt and poignant lyric.

Today's Video Share: "You Prob'ly Won't Stay" by The Not So Ideal Tenants (Gail Taylor’s Earth Song)

“I'm in the process of reinventing myself as a songwriter and musician.

After a quarter of a century in the financial world, I was dreaming of a second calling. I didn't start this new journey until shortly before I turned 60, so sometimes it feels like I'm in a race with the clock! Then, I realize I'm having so much fun that it's all good.

I'm not sure if I have a genre yet.

I’ve written half a dozen songs, and they seem to vary from rock 'n' roll to soft rock to country-pop. I guess we’ll see where it all plays out! In developing my vocals, so far, I’m most comfortable with raunchy rock...so maybe you’ll see a few covers. I love singing “Cover of Rolling Stone” by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show...and don’t get me started on Chuck Berry tunes!

I would love to use my music to generate social messages.

I'd like to provoke thought, and maybe even a bit of change. It would be great if, somehow, my music could help people to be their best selves!

You Prob'ly won't Stay is a tragic love story between humans and the planet.”

Today's Video Share: "Spacesuit Days" by Gail Gallagher

Gail Gallagher is a singer songwriter whose genre is a mix of musical theatre and folk rock. Spacesuit Days is a whimsical but reflective song about realizing you are done putting on the armor (or the spacesuit) you used to wear and playing the roles you used to play but also look longingly at the person you used to be. The music video stars my friend Maggie Wagner who happened to own a spacesuit costume from a David Bowie performance art piece she does from time to time. The video is also a nod to the current pandemic situation complete with elbow high fives and mask jokes.

Today's Video Share: "I Am A Woman" by Anne Suzanne

This video is dedicated to women. During the outbreak of Corona virus I came across many heart warming initiatives led by women in Amsterdam and Holland as a whole. They inspire me to embrace the innate female approach to building a better future: to connect. Only when we reach out and work together can we stop loneliness and other societal problems.

This song is about what it means to be a woman.

Today's Video Share: "Party in the Living Room" by Cara Van Thorn

Frontwoman Carrie Stephens wrote this song in response to corona quarantining. Being stuck at home, suddenly forced into isolation just as the band was gaining traction, depression slowly took hold. One evening, unable to find interest in anything else, she put on a random playlist and danced alone for two hours, until she felt semi-whole again. This song is a reminder that music is one of the strongest connections we have to ourselves and to each other.
